From Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1, police departments in Putnam, Carmel and Kent will help to carry out the STOP-DWI Thanksgiving Weekend Crackdown, one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
These state enforcement initiatives are intended to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities that result from impaired driving.
“This Thanksgiving weekend, millions will hit the roads eager to spend time with family and friends. It’s one of the busiest travel times of the year, and unfortunately, more people on the roadways means the potential for more vehicle crashes,” said Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr.
The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign will also target the national holiday season throughout December, officials say.
Officers also urge residents to download the “Have A Plan” mobile app, a resource that enables users to locate and call taxi services, program a list of designated drivers, find information about DWI laws and even report a suspected impaired driver.
“Impaired driving is completely preventable. All it takes is a little planning,” said Langley, Jr. “Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving Weekend!”
